It’s the little things in life that amuse me…
I hadn’t been to McDonald’s in long time. Despite my better judgement, my kids convinced me to go. While waiting for the food to be brought out, I filled up my drink cup and grabbed a straw from the dispenser.
As I opened the straw, I noticed something I’ve never seen before. One side of the straw of was crimped closed (as shown in the photo above), rendering it useless.
Most people would toss it aside and get another, but not me.
A variety of thoughts went through my head. First I thought “what are the odds of this happening”? I mean, really…What are the odds? (If you know, please let me know). I pondered this improbability for far too long.
Next I thought, “what if I was in the drive-thru and got this straw? I wouldn’t be able to drink from my cup! That would have been horrible.
Then I thought “maybe I should put it on Ebay”. Perhaps some collector of oddities would want it (I haven’t yet, but I might still).
Then the kids looked at it.
They too were amazed at such a find.
We then had an interesting discussion about how such an anomaly could have occurred.
I was so impressed I even took it up to the counter to show the guy at the register.
He wasn’t impressed. In fact, he seemed a bit confused. He just looked at me and asked if I wanted another straw, to which I replied “NO”.
My son asked me if I was going to take it home…
Of course I was!
While this may seem like a really stupid thing, it was actually a moment I’ll probably remember for a long time. Not because of the defective straw, but because of the laughs my kids and I shared over something so silly.
That’s what life is about.
You don’t always have to seek out activities or plan things to have fun. Sometimes moments just happen. You need to look for the happy things that present themselves in strange ways because they’re usually the best ones.
Cherish the little things in life, even if it’s a defective straw…
